Biography

Magdalena Kling-Fender

Violinist

She performs in Poland and abroad, specializing in chamber music. She is affiliated with the Academy of Music in Łódź, where – as the holder of the Doctor of Arts degree – she works on the position of an adiunkt [assistant professor] in the Department of String Instruments.
She graduated with honors from the Academy of Music in Łódź, the violin class of Prof. Iwona Wojciechowska, in 1999. She honed her skills on numerous music courses in Łańcut, Żagań and Głuchołazy. She is a prizewinner of regional, all-Polish and international competitions, in which she participated as a school pupil and student. Her most important achievements comprise the following: 3rd prize at the All-Polish Violin Auditions in Elbląg (1993), honorary mention at the Stanisław Serwaczyński All-Polish Violin Competition in Lublin (1993), the Łódź Music Association Prize at the Karol Szymanowski International Violin Competition (1997) and honorary mention in the piano trio category at the Kiejstut Bacewicz International Academic Chamber Competition in Łódź (1998).
The violinist has performed at artistic-scientific seminars organized by the Academy of Music in Łódź, such as ‘Musica Moderna’ contemporary music sessions. She has collaborated with the Studio Sextet, founded by professors of the Łódź Academy. She has made recordings for the Polish Radio and Television, participated in the recording sessions of Wojciech Lemański’s music to Piotr Trzaskalski’s films Edi (2002) and Mistrz (2005).
The artist has performed for the audience of several Polish festivals. Her performances are well remembered by attendees of the International Organ and Chamber Music Festival in Wolsztyn (she took part in the 10th jubilee edition of this event in 2005) and the Cultural Spring in Nałęczów (2006). She has also performed at 23rd Chopin Confrontations in Radziwiłłs’ Palace in Antonin at the concert presenting Olga Hans’s and Monika Kędziora’s compositions.
For many years, Magdalena Kling-Fender and her husband Robert Fender have been part of the Trio Vivo ensemble, which has already been performing since 1997. In 2011, the ensemble’s debut album, featuring works of Brahms and Arensky, was published by the DUX record label. Later, together with Robert Fender, the artist also recorded Paweł Klecki’s Trio Fortepianowe as well as Kodály’s and Ravel’s sonatas for violin and cello. The latest albums are CDs recorded together with the violist Elżbieta Mrożek-Loska, presenting J. S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations in the version for a string trio published by the DUX record label as well as an „Aleksander Tansman Chamber Music” album released by the Ars Sonora.
Violinist’s newest significant achievement is the Silver Medal for the Goldberg Variations recording. The album was honored with this award by the Global Music Awards ( USA ) in 2019. Currently, apart from the abovementioned musicians, she also collaborates with the pianists Zbigniew Raubo and Hanna Holeksa.

Robert Fender

Cellist

He performs as a soloist and chamber musician, affiliated with the Academy of Music in Łódź as an adiunkt [assistant professor] in the Department of String Instruments.
He graduated with honors from the Academy of Music in Łódź, the cello class of Prof. Stanisław Firlej, in 1999. He honed his skills on music courses in Poland and abroad under guidance of renowned pedagogues: Zara Nelsova, Natalia Szachowska, Milos Sadlo, Gerhard Mantel, Karine Georgian, Angelice May.
He can boast numerous prizes: 3rd prize at the Dezyderiusz Danczowski All-Polish Cello Competition in Poznań (1997), honorary mention at the Kiejstut Bacewicz International Chamber Music Competition in Łódź (1998) and the SPAM special prize at the 3rd A. Tansman International Competition of Musical Personalities (2002). In the period of 1998-1999, he was a grant-holder of the Ministry of Culture and Art.
Robert Fender has performed as a soloist with the Łódź Philharmonic Orchestra, Concerto Avenna, the Bielsko-Biała Chamber Orchestra and Łódź ‘Camerata’ Chamber Orchestra. He has taken part in festivals and music seminars in Poland and abroad.
The artist has made recordings for the Polish Radio in Warsaw, Radio Łódź and Polish Television. Since 1997, he has been a member of the TRIO VIVO piano trio.
In 2011, the ensemble’s debut album, featuring works of Brahms and Arensky, was published by the DUX record label. The artist’s output comprises another two records – with Paweł Klecki’s Trio and with Kodály’s and Ravel’s sonatas for violin and cello. The latest publications are CDs recorded together with the violist Elżbieta Mrożek-Loska, presenting the Goldberg Variations by J. S.
